{{/presale}}The War of 1812 is remembered differently on each side of the Atlantic Ocean, but however you slice it, the decision to go to war was a matter of national existence for the young United States. In Britain, the war was considered a theater in the broader Napoleonic Wars in Europe, while Americans and Canadians viewed it as a standalone war. Right now, you can buy the Canadian War of 1812 1/2 oz Platinum Coin online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The War of 1812 involved a number of different combatants from the indigenous tribes of Tecumsehs Confederacy and Spanish forces in Florida to the United States of America and the United Kingdom with its Canadian colonial allies. Outside of the 1813 battle in which the Americans defeated Tecumsehs Confederacy and a two-day battle in Spanish Florida, much of the war was conducted between the Canadians, British, and Americans.
Obverse
On the obverse side of the Canadian War of 1812 Platinum Coins is the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. In this 2003 design from Susanna Blunt, the Queens portrait is featured in right-profile relief with inscriptions of Elizabeth II above and 50 Dollars Canada below. This is the fourth-generation portrait of Her Majesty during her reign as Queen of England.
Reverse
The reverse design elements of the Canadian War of 1812 1/2 oz Platinum Coins include the heraldic symbols of the three primary combatants. British North America, as Canadian provinces and territories were then known, was one of the primary theaters of the war. America eventually launched its War of 1812 offensives as a means of curtailing British influence in North America and opening passages for American expansion to the West. As such, the Canadian shield with a maple leaf is in the center of the design. On the left of the shield is the Lion of England, while the American bald eagle is on the right.
History
The Royal Canadian Mint first issued commemorative coins for the War of 1812 in 2012 to mark its 200th anniversary. After early defeats in 1812 and 1813, the Americans spent the rest of the war on the offensive picking up one victory after another, culminating in the decisive American victory over the British in New Orleans. This was the second time American forces had defeated the vaunted British Army and the first time ever that America had formally declared war on another country.
