{{/presale}}The 1/2 oz gold coins of the US Mint First Spouse coin program feature 1/2 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold with inspiring designs reflecting the women who have served as First Spouse in the United States. More importantly, the achievements and social causes championed by these individuals are featured in the reverse design of each coin. Provident Metals currently has US Mint First Spouse 1/2 oz Gold Coins available for you to purchase online in near-perfect condition.
Highlights:
When you purchase one of the US Mint First Spouse 1/2 oz Gold Coins in this Provident Metals listing, you receive a coin that earned a near-perfect certification. The coins may be BU or proof specimens with a corresponding MS69 or PR/PF69 grade, but regardless of the type, it means the coins showcase full, original mint luster with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Acceptable flaws include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines. These must be located outside of the primary focal points.
Obverse
The obverse face of US Mint First Spouse 1/2 oz Gold Coins will feature one of two types of designs. For Presidents who were married, their First Spouse is depicted on the obverse of the coin. The first issue year featured Martha Washington, Abigail Adams, and Dolley Madison. For Presidents who were not married, a bust of Liberty as featured on American denominations of that era features instead. The first two issue years featured three bachelor presidents: Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren. The Jefferson coin features the Capped Bust Liberty design, the Jackson coin the Seated Liberty Dime design, and the Van Buren coin the Liberty Coronet design.
Reverse
On the reverse side of US Mint First Spouse 1/2 oz Gold Coins is a design that honors the achievements and social causes championed by the First Spouse. For those bachelor presidents, the design honors the achievements and causes of the Commander-in-Chief.
History
The First Spouse Series is a companion program to the Presidential $1 Coin Series. To qualify for the Presidential $1 Series, a President must be out of office and no longer living. As such, when the series concluded in 2016, the last president to qualify was Ronald Reagan. First Spouses qualify when the president qualifies for the $1 Coin Series. As such, Nancy Reagan is the most recent spouse featured.
