{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}In 2021, the United States Mint revived two of its most recognizable silver dollar designs, a decision that was warmly received by collectors. The release commemorated the 100th anniversary of the final Morgan Dollar as well as the debut of the historic Peace Dollar. Beginning in 2023, these classic silver dollars have been issued annually as collectible proofs for todays numismatic market. Provident Metals currently offers Proof Peace Dollar Silver Coins in certified condition.
Highlights:
All Proof Peace Dollar Silver Coins offered here are certified as perfect examples. Coins graded PF/PR70 show full mint brilliance and no visible flaws when viewed under magnification. Orders may include different years of issue beginning in 2023, along with varying mint marks or label designs. Because inventory is selected at random after payment is processed, specific years, mint marks, or labels cannot be guaranteed.
Obverse
The obverse of the Proof Peace Dollar Coin features a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty designed by sculptor Anthony de Francisci. Liberty wears a crown with rays extending outward, representing freedom and optimism. De Francisci modeled the design after his wife, Teresa, creating a youthful and modern image that stood apart from earlier Liberty portraits. The inscriptions here read LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRVST, and the date of issue.
Reverse
On the reverse, the Proof Peace Dollar Silver Coin depicts a bald eagle resting peacefully while holding an olive branch. This calm imagery was intended to symbolize the nations desire for peace following World War I. The design marked a shift away from the more aggressive eagle imagery found on earlier US silver dollars. Inscriptions here read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and PEACE.
History
Original Peace Dollar production dropped sharply as the 1920s progressed. While issues from 1924 and 1925 were produced in moderate numbers, mintages declined significantly from 1926 through 1928. Several branch mint coins from this period are now considered difficult to find. The 1928 Philadelphia Peace Dollar had especially low production, and no Peace Dollars were struck at the Denver or San Francisco mints in 1927, reflecting reduced demand for silver dollars at the time.
