{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Collectors recognized a notable anniversary in 2021 with the return of two well-known silver dollar designs from the United States Mint. These releases honored both the 100th anniversary of the final Morgan Dollar and the original introduction of the Peace Dollar. Due to strong collector interest, the Mint continued issuing these designs as annual Proof collectibles beginning in 2023. Proof Peace Dollar Silver Coins are now available online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each Proof Peace Dollar Silver Coin offered here includes its original presentation box and a Certificate of Authenticity from the US Mint. Coins are drawn from available dates starting in 2023, and individual year requests cannot be honored. Selection is made at random once payment has been processed.
Obverse
The obverse of the Proof Peace Dollar Coin displays a left-facing image of Lady Liberty created by Anthony de Francisci. Liberty wears a crown with long rays extending outward, symbolizing enlightenment and freedom. De Francisci modeled the design after his wife, Teresa, giving Liberty a more natural and youthful appearance. This modern approach set the Peace Dollar apart from earlier silver dollar portraits. The inscriptions include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRVST, and the year of issue.
Reverse
On the reverse, the Proof Peace Dollar Silver Coin shows an American bald eagle resting on a rock while holding an olive branch. This calm image reflects the countrys hope for peace following World War I. Rather than depicting motion or strength through aggression, the design focuses on stillness and balance, reinforcing the Peace Dollars symbolic message. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and PEACE.
History
The Peace Dollar briefly returned to circulation in 1934 and 1935 as part of federal efforts to manage silver supplies during the Great Depression. These coins were struck at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco mints. The 1935 release marked the final year of regular production, ending the series quietly. A later revival attempt in 1964 resulted in all struck coins being melted before public release.
