Introduced in 1908, the Indian Half Eagle Gold Coin was the nations first-ever incuse design and was also one of the first American coins to feature an indigenous figure. Coins in this condition are known as About Uncirculated and show medium or even full mint luster. There may be either extremely light or trace wear present only on the highest points of the coin.

Obverse
The obverse side of Pre-33 $5 Indian Half Eagle Gold Coins comes with a portrait of an indigenous figure. This left-profile relief was created in 1908 by Bela Lyon Pratt and was also featured on the US Quarter Eagle. This field includes a date mark at the bottom, 13 stars along the edge of the design field, and the word LIBERTY overhead.
Reverse
On the reverse face of the Pre-33 $5 Indian Half Eagle Gold Coin is a depiction of an American bald eagle. The eagle is shown resting on a sheaf of arrows that is wrapped in an olive branch. Inscriptions on this face of the coin read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and FIVE DOLLARS.
History
The Pre-33 $5 Indian Half Eagle Gold Coin was available from the United States Mint starting in 1908 and was produced annually up to the start of World War I. As gold hoarding during the war picked up, the US Mint halted production of new coins. The Indian Half Eagle did not return until 1929, the final year it was issued.
