{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The three-dollar gold coin is one of the more unusual denominations in US history, minted only between 1854 and 1889. It was originally introduced to make buying sheets of three-cent stamps more convenient and to help with small commercial transactions. Today, you can purchase Pre-33 $3 Indian Princess Gold Coins from random years of issue here at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Every $3 Indian Princess Gold Coin offered here arrives in a protective flip. These are cleaned coins, which means you might notice a bright surface appearance, reduced natural luster, or light marks from handling. Please note that specific dates or conditions are not guaranteed. These coins were originally produced between 1854 and 1889, and selections are made at random.
Obverse
The obverse of Pre-33 Indian Princess Gold Coins shows a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty. Designed by James B. Longacre, this version of Liberty wears a feathered headdress, which gave rise to the Indian Princess nickname. The inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Reverse
The reverse design of the $3 Indian Princess Gold Coin presents a wreath surrounding the denomination and date. There are two types: the Type I design shows smaller lettering for the word DOLLARS, while the Type II version has larger lettering. Either type could be included in this offering. The inscriptions read 3 DOLLARS and the date mark.
History
Although it had a practical reason for being created, the $3 Indian Princess Gold Coin never found a strong place in everyday circulation. Its unusual value made it awkward to use, but that very same rarity makes it appealing to collectors now. Numismatists value the coin not only for its short production period but also for its detailed artwork of Liberty wearing a feathered headdress.
