Coins produced prior to World War II are relatively rare due to their age. The Indian Head Gold Quarter Eagle Coin is one of the most historical pieces of currency the United States has ever produced. These coins were first released in 1908, and they circulated as currency until 1929. However, once the coins were discontinued, they quickly became highly sought after and rare. Today, you can purchase these unique coins from Provident Metals in MS62 condition.

Highlights:

  • Ships in a protective plastic assay slab!
  • Coins ship in Mint State 62 condition!
  • Struck between 1908 and 1929!
  • Each coin contains .12094 Troy oz of actual gold.
  • Given a face value of $2.50 (USD) backed by the United States of America.
  • Coins come in assay slabs from either the NGC or PCGS.

Coins in Mint State 62 condition will have a worn but acceptable condition. This grade allows for several hairline and contact marks and scuffing of the original mint luster. However, to prevent further deterioration, these coins are sealed in plastic slabs from the grading service they were graded at. In this listing, you could receive coins that were graded by either the NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation) or the PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service).

Obverse

The obverse face of each coin bears the image of a Native American wearing a traditional warrior headdress. The man is encircled by thirteen stars. The date is printed beneath the Native American, while Liberty is written below.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the coin, you will notice the Bald Eagle, the national bird of the United States. The bird stands atop a bundle of arrows that are tied together with an olive branch.

History

These coins have a unique recessed design, while most other coins have a raised design. Instead, the details are carved into the coin itself. The Indian Head Gold Quarter Eagle Coins are so popular due to the fact that they are the only remaining United States Mint currency coins that have a recessed design.
