{{/presale}}To find coins minted before World War II in good condition might be a challenge. However, due to their rarity, these coins can fetch prices that are far higher than their original face value. These coins replaced the design from Christian Gobrecht. Today, you can purchase the $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coin from Provident Metals in MS63 condition.
Highlights:
Coins in this listing received a Mint State 63 grade from either the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NCG) or Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). In this condition, coins may have a slightly impaired luster. Small hairlines will be visible without magnification. You may also find several detracting flaws throughout the design or in the fields.
Obverse
On the obverse, you will find the image of Lady Liberty. This design is based on Greco-Roman sculptures, so you will find Lady Liberty wearing a pearl-encrusted coronet inscribed with the word Liberty.
Reverse
The heraldic eagle can be found on the reverse of each coin with a shield on its chest. The shield is covered in 13 stars, which represent the original colonies of this great land. The reverse design was inspired by the Great Seal of the United States.
History
The Gold Double Eagle Coin was introduced by the United States Mint in 1850. These coins now feature one of the most iconic coin designs in American history. After the California Gold Rush, in 1849, legislation was passed by the United States Congress to allow the minting of this new coin. Revered engraver James Barton Longacre is responsible for designing the largest circulating gold coin in our nations history.
