{{/presale}}The US Eagle Gold Coins issued by the United States Mint starting in 1795 represented the earliest gold coins ever issued by the US. Struck through most of its history with 90% gold content and 10% copper, the coins were available in denominations known as the Eagle, Half Eagle, Quarter Eagle, and Double Eagle, with each denomination based on the $10 face value of the Eagle. Provident Metals now has Pre-33 $10 Indian and Liberty Eagle 2-Coin Gold Sets available to you for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase a Pre-33 $10 Indian and Liberty Eagle 2-Coin Gold Set from Provident Metals, you will receive two gold coins with protective plastic flips. The coin set includes one coin each from the Liberty Head and Indian Head design collections. The coins in this set are in About Uncirculated-plus condition, an indication that the coins have only light-to-trace wear on the highest points of the design elements and medium or near-full mint luster present.
Please remember that the date marks on the respective designs cover a 90-year period. The Liberty Head coins have dates that range from 1838 to 1907, while the Indian Head coins have dates ranging from 1907 to 1933.
Obverse
Effigies of Lady Liberty are found on the obverse of the coins in the Pre-33 $10 Indian and Liberty Eagle 2-Coin Gold Sets. The Liberty Head coin features a left-profile effigy of Liberty with the coronet crown on her head. The Indian Head coin depicts Liberty wearing an indigenous feathered headdress. Both coins have 13 stars around the design element with inscriptions of LIBERTY and the date mark.
Reverse
American bald eagles are shown on the reverse of coins in these Pre-33 $10 Indian and Liberty Eagle 2-Coin Gold Sets. The Liberty coin features the heraldic eagle of the United States with inscriptions of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and FIVE D. Coins dated 1866-1907 in the Liberty series also have a banner above the eagle with an inscription of IN GOD WE TRUST. The Indian coins feature a bald eagle perched with its wings at its side on a sheaf of arrows that is wrapped in an olive branch. Inscriptions on these coins include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and FIVE DOLLARS.
History
The Liberty Head coin was the longest-running in the series covering nearly 70 years. It was the only denomination in the US Eagle Series and featured on the coins through the Mexican-American War, the Civil War, Reconstruction, the Gilded Age, and the Industrial Revolution. The Indian Head design was the final issue of the series and the first-ever coin design with indigenous elements in the design.
