{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Pre-1933 $1 US Gold Coin is a popular choice for collectors who want to own a piece of early American gold history without taking on the higher cost of larger gold denominations. These small coins represent a key period in US coinage before gold was removed from circulation by the federal government. Produced between 1849 and 1889, they offer a practical and affordable way to collect authentic 19th-century US gold. Pre-33 $1 Indian Princess Gold Coins from random years are now available online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
These Pre-33 $1 Indian Princess Gold Coins arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition with plastic flips. Please note that this listing offers coins from random years of issue. We cannot guarantee a specific year of issue for the coin you receive. If you buy multiples, you may receive coins with matching years of issue or a variety of different years.
Obverse
In the obverse design of the Pre-33 Indian Princess Gold Coin, youll find the Type III Liberty image. This final design for the $1 Gold Coin was created by Chief Engraver James B. Longacre and is often viewed as the most complete version of the series. The Type III issue was struck from 1856 to 1889 and features a larger Indian Princess portrait wearing a feathered headdress. The expanded design fills more of the field and gives the coin a sharper overall appearance than earlier editions. The inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Reverse
For the reverse of the Pre-33 $1 Indian Princess Gold Coins, the design displays a more developed agricultural wreath that circles the denomination. This updated wreath provides a more even and finished look, helping correct the spacing and layout issues found on previous types of the series. The inscriptions read 1 DOLLAR and the year of issue.
History
Circulation of the Type III $1 US Gold Coin was limited throughout its production run, as many examples were saved, traded privately, or exported because of their gold value. While millions of coins were minted across multiple locations such as Philadelphia, Dahlonega, Charlotte, New Orleans, and San Francisco, a number of dates are still difficult to locate in worn condition, which suggests these coins did not see heavy daily use. Since paper currency and higher-denomination coins were more common for everyday spending, these small gold pieces were often impractical for routine commerce.
