{{/presale}}The final silver dollar the United States Mint released into circulation was the Peace Dollar. This design from Anthony de Francisci replaced the long-running Morgan Dollar design that had been created in the 19th century and issued annually from 1878 to 1904. When silver dollar coining resumed in 1921, the Morgan Dollar was issued at first, but later replaced on December 28, 1921, by the new Peace Dollar. Right now, you can buy certified Peace Dollar Silver Coins online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
With your purchase of the Peace Dollar Silver Coin in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a coin that was assigned an AU58 grade by the PCGS. This stands for About Uncirculated condition at a rating of 58 on the Sheldon numeric scale, a coin grading scale that runs from 1 at the low end to 70 at the high end, with a 70 representing a perfect coin. AU58 specimens have medium or full mint luster with only extremely light or trace signs of wear on the highest points of relief.
Obverse
Liberty is on the obverse side of Peace Dollar Silver Coins. This 1921 design from Anthony de Francisci features a bust of Liberty in left-profile relief with a crown formed by rays of bright light. The inscriptions on this side of the coin include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1921.
Reverse
An American bald eagle is found in the reverse design of the Peace Dollar Coin. This work of art also comes from Francisci and reflects the American publics desire to see a more peaceful design on its coinage following World War I. This bald eagle sits on its perch, wings at its side, as the sun rises on the horizon in the distance. The inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and PEACE.
History
The Peace Dollar was first struck by the United States Mint on December 28, 1921. Some 1 million coins were issued in those final days of 1921, but it would be the 1922 and 1923 date marks that made up the bulk of production in this series. In 1922 and 1923 alone, the Philadelphia Mint struck more than 81 million Peace Dollars, issuing 51.7 million in 1922 and 30.8 million in 1923.
