{{/presale}}The Great Horned Owl 1 oz Copper Round is one of 10 copper designs in the American Wildlife Series now available at Provident Metals. Containing .999 fine copper, the one AVDP ounce copper Owl was manufactured at the Elemetal Mint under IRA certified production standards. The Elemetal Mint holds an ISO9001 certification that guarantees the weight and purity of each round they produce.
Showcasing its dexterity, a Great Horned Owl flies down upon a rabbit that scampers away from the spread-winged bird. The intricate details of the owl are on full display in this spectacle that takes place in the wilderness of the Adirondack Mountains. “GREAT HORNED OWL” is engraved atop the image.
The Great Horned Owl is also known as the hoot owl or tiger owl. The aggressive and agile bird was named “winged tiger” and “tiger of the air” in early descriptions. This raptor’s diet consists of smaller animals including rabbits, hares, mice, rats, reptiles and other birds.
The forest in the background of the obverse is in the Adirondack Mountains, which are located in Upstate New York and are covered with a variety of trees. Many animals reside in the Adirondack Wilderness that stretches from 5,000 to 6,000 miles, including 260 bird species.
The American Wildlife Series has a common reverse that features a map of the United States below a bald eagle that soars with a banner in its beak reading “By Thomas D. Rogers, Sr.” Along with the round’s weight and purity, the name of the series is inscribed.
Thomas Rogers designed each round in the American Wildlife Series. The former sculptor and engraver with the U.S. Mint lent his expertise to this exclusive series from Provident Metals, and helped highlight many of nature’s finest animals and habitats.
