{{/presale}}One of the most recognizable global currencies of the 19th and early 20th centuries was the Great Britain Sovereign. So-named because the coins always have an obverse image of the reigning British sovereign, this coin series dates back to 1817 and is inspired by the older 15th-century English sovereign gold coins. Right now, you can buy Great Britain Sovereign King George Gold Coins online at Provident Metals.

Reverse
On the reverse of Great Britain Sovereign King George Gold Coins, you will find the same design for all King George releases. The design on the reverse of these Great Britain Sovereigns was created in 1817 by Benedetto Pistrucci and depicts St. George on horseback with a spear as he slays the dragon. The only monarch to issue Great Britain Sovereigns without this image was Queen Victoria during early portions of her reign.
History
King George IV was the reigning King of England in 1817 when the new Great Britain Sovereign Gold Coins debuted. The next time a King George was on the throne it was King George V who reigned from 1910 to his death in 1936. The next George to sit on the throne was George Vs son, King George VI who reigned from December 1936 to his own death in 1952. These two men were the grandfather and father of the current monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.
