Provident Metals is pleased to offer the first of MrThe’s hobo nickel designs, The Fisherman 1 oz Silver Antiqued Round. This stunning silver bullion round consists of one troy ounce of .999 fine silver with an antiqued finish, comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, and is produced by the Osborne Mint.

The hobo nickel is a cultural art form in which the design of small-denomination coins is modified. This type of modification dates from the 1750s, but increased in popularity in the early 1900s with the introduction of Fraser’s Buffalo Nickel. MrThe has sculpted 5 hobo nickel designs on 1 oz silver buffalo rounds using a mixture of contemporary tools and classical techniques. Each release is available as a 1 oz proof-like round, 1 oz antiqued round, and 5 oz antiqued round.

The obverse of this 1 oz silver coin features the profile of the classic wandering fisherman. The fisherman wears a woolen stocking cap and turtleneck sweater, and is smoking a cigarette. This round also features a rope-like design around the rim, and the engravings “LIBERTY”, and “1937”. This round was designed by MrThe in Orlando at the 2012 FUN show over a two day period.

The reverse design of this round depicts a fisherman relaxing on a boat dock in a lake that lies in front of three mountains; the fisherman has his line cast into the lake. The reverse also features the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, and “FIVE CENTS”.

The hobo nickels also feature an edge mark of the coin number.

Every one of these coins was designed by Paolo Curcio, known as MrThe in the sculpting world. MrThe is a classically trained artist that studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. MrThe sculpts some of the most beautiful and unique hobo nickels in his studio in Spain. Celebrate this historic art form by adding a hobo nickel 1 oz silver round to your collection of silver bullion.

Each 1 oz antiqued hobo nickel will ship in a plastic capsule in the same condition it is received from the Osborne Mint.

Each design has a limited mintage. Proof rounds have a limited mintage of 10,000, 1 oz and 5 oz antiqued rounds have a mintage of only 1,000.
