Obverse

The obverse design of the Chinese Panda Gold Coins displays the Temple of Heaven, a historic and culturally significant site in Beijing. This design has been a constant feature since the launch of the Gold Panda series in 1982, symbolizing Chinas rich heritage.

Reverse

The reverse side of each Chinese Panda 12 oz Gold Coin showcases the beloved giant panda in various poses and settings. Changing annually, these designs emphasize the pandas importance in Chinese culture and wildlife conservation. In 2016, due to successful conservation efforts, the panda was reclassified from endangered to vulnerable, marking a significant achievement in global conservation.

History

The giant panda, scientifically known as Ailuropoda melanoleuca, is native to central Chinas mountain regions, such as Sichuan. Known for their black-and-white coloring and a diet mostly consisting of bamboo, pandas represent Chinas commitment to wildlife preservation. Their daily bamboo consumption is extensive, as these unique bears need a steady supply to meet their dietary needs.
