{{/presale}}The Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin Series is one of the oldest gold bullion coin collections in the world. The series debuted in 1979, just 12 years after the South African Gold Krugerrand became the first modern gold bullion coin available to private investors. At this point, the Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin offers incredible variety and affordability to investors. Today, you have the opportunity to purchase Canadian Maple Leaf 1 Gram Gold Coins online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins were first available only in 1 oz gold in 1979. These 1 Gram coins represent the most recent entry in the series. Over the course of the next four decades, new weights were added to the program with only one weight ever removed. The 1/15 oz coin was only issued in 1994 for the 15th anniversary of the series. It was removed from production after that one year. The Canadian Maple Leaf 1 Gram coin has been available each year since 2014.
Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse side of all Canadian Maple Leaf 1 Gram Gold Coins. Her Majesty is shown in right-profile relief in a 2003 design from Susanna Blunt. This image is the fourth-generation effigy of Her Majesty on Canadian coins and is just the second that was ever designed by a Canadian artist.
Reverse
The sugar maple leaf is the iconic emblem of the Canadian nation and has appeared in the same design on the reverse of the coins series since 1979. It was designed by Walter Ott and has been replicated on the silver, platinum, and palladium versions of the coin over the course of time, as well as featuring on all weights of the gold coin.
History
The Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins originally consisted of .999 fine gold from 1979 to November 1982. In 1982, the Royal Canadian Mint introduced 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins into the series and boosted the metal content to .9999 pure gold. Further additions included the 1/2 oz coin in 1986, the 1/20 oz coin in 1993, and these 1 Gram coins in 2014.
