{{/presale}}First issued in 1986, the American Silver Eagle is the official silver bullion coin of the US. It was initially issued in only bullion and proof versions. In 2006, for the 20th anniversary of the Silver Eagles, Burnished versions of the coins started being issued, although no Burnished versions were produced in either 2009 or 2010. The Burnished coins undergo a special process during coining that results in them having a matte-like finish. The Burnished coins have only been produced at the West Point Mint and carry a W mint mark. Provident Metals currently has Burnished American Eagle 1 oz Silver coins available for purchase.
Highlights:
The Burnished American Eagle Silver coins available are from various years. The exact year of mintage of the coins you receive will depend upon availability, as we select coins to fulfill your order only after your payment clears. We cannot guarantee date marks available at any given time and cannot guarantee a specific year. If you purchase more than one coin, you might receive coins with matching date marks.
Obverse
The obverse of the American Eagle Silver coin features the Walking Liberty design created by Adolph A. Weinman. This full length figure of Walking Liberty has an American flag draped over her shoulders as she walks toward the sun on the horizon. In her left arm she is carrying branches of laurel and oak, which are symbolical of civil and military glory. Weinman originally created this design for what became the Walking Liberty Half Dollar, It was considered to be such a beautiful design that it was reprised onto the American Eagle Silver coins in 1986. Inscriptions on the obverse are LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the particular year.
Reverse
The reverse of the American Eagle Silver coin features the heraldic eagle design created by then-US Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti. This design, similar to the Great Seal of the United States, portrays a bald eagle, behind a shield, with an olive branch in its right claw and arrows in its left claw. To represent the 13 Colonies, there are 13 five-pointed stars above the eagles head. Inscriptions on the reverse are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER, and ONE DOLLAR. It also has the W mint mark.
History
All 3 versions of the American Eagle Silver coins are struck only in the one troy ounce weight, and their content, weight, and purity are certified by the US Mint. From 1986 to 1998, the Silver Eagles were struck in the San Francisco Mint. The next 2 years they were struck in the Philadelphia Mint. Since 2001, they have been struck in the West Point Mint. The Burnished Silver Eagle coins have only been struck in the West Point Mint.
