{{/presale}}The British Britannia Series is the Royal Mint of Englands annual bullion release. The collection debuted in 1987 with the British Britannia Gold Coin. Like many other gold bullion coin collections, the Britannia Series offers 1 oz gold with a selection of fractional-ounce coins as well. Today, you have the opportunity to buy British Britannia 1/10 oz Gold Coins online from Provident Metals from random years.
Highlights:
British Britannia Gold Coins debuted in 1987 with 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz coins available. Each coin has a face value in the Great Britain Pound sterling based on the 100 Pound sterling value of the 1 oz coin. As such, the 1/2 oz coin has a value of 50 Pound sterling, the 1/4 oz coin a value of 25 Pound sterling, and the 1/10 oz coin a value of 10 Pound sterling.
Obverse
On the obverse side of British Britannia 1/10 oz Gold Coins are varying images of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majestys effigy is regularly updated on British currency. The coins in this series dated 1987 to 1997 have the Raphael Maklouf bust of Queen Elizabeth II known as the third-generation effigy. Coins struck from 1998 to 2015 have Ian Rank-Broadleys fourth-generation bust of the Queen. All coins issued 2016 and later have the latest fifth-generation effigy from Jody Clark. As of 2023, the Royal Mint features a bust of King Charles III in left-profile relief on the obverse.
Reverse
The reverse face of all British Britannia Gold Coins has the same design each year. Here, Philip Nathans design of Britannia as a powerful guardian of the British Isles is featured each year. She is visible with a Corinthian helmet on her head, a trident in her right hand to control the seas, and a shield with the Union Jack on it to help defend the nation against invaders.
History
The British Britannia Gold Coins were available with the aforementioned weights from 1987 to 2012. In 2012, the Royal Mint introduced a 5 oz gold coin and a 1/20 oz gold coin into the series with values of 500 Pound sterling and 5 Pound sterling, respectively. This was not the only change, however. The coins issued from 1987 to 2012 had 22-karat gold content with 91.67% gold in the coins. From 1987 to 1989, copper made up the remainder of the metal content. From 1990 to 2012, silver made up the remaining component. In 2013, the British Britannia Series upgraded to 24-karat gold.
