Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse of all coins in this Australian Lunar 1 Kilo Silver Coin listing. As the Lunar Series 1 Kilo coins debuted in 1999, the fifth-generation Australian effigy of Her Majesty from Ian Rank-Broadley appears on the obverse of all coins dated from 1999 to 2019. This covers most of Lunar Series I and all of Lunar Series II. Coins in the Lunar Series III collection have Jody Clarks sixth-generation portrait of the Queen and start with 2020 dates.
Reverse
The 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac feature on the reverse of the Australian Lunar 1 Kilo Silver Coins. Introduced in 1996, the series includes the following animals: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. Each of the Lunar Series I, II, and III coins offer their own, distinctive images of these animals.
History
Lunar Series I was the first collection from the Perth Mint. Debuting in 1996, it originally offered only 1 oz options for investors. 1 Kilo coins were added in 1999 and have continued as a staple in the silver coin series through the whole of Lunar Series II and the debut of Lunar Series III in 2020.
