History
Coins in the Lunar series have been released annually from the Perth Mint since 1996. Silver coins first became available in 1999, starting with the Year of the Rabbit design. Since then, all 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac have been featured in sequence. This trend continues with the newest releases for 2021 and 2022.

Coins dated 1999 through 2019 will feature the original design by Ian Rank-Broadley. All coins dated 2020 and onward show the newer portrait created by Jody Clark. This newer portrait of Her Majesty the Queen was created in 2015 for the Royal Mint of England, and it finally debuted on Australian coins in 2020 when the Lunar Series III collection was released by the Perth Mint.
Reverse
