{{/presale}}The Perth Mints leading bullion coin series is the Australian Gold Nugget. Modern investors would know the series as the Australian Gold Kangaroo, but from 1987 to 1989 the coin program was known as the Australian Nugget and featured rotating designs than the modern Australian Kangaroo. Right now, you can purchase Australian Nugget 1 oz Gold Coins from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Perth Mints first annual release gold bullion coin was the Australian Nugget. The coins debuted in 1986 with 1987 date marks and featured images of gold nuggets actually harvested from the gold fields of Australia. The first design, for example, featured the Welcome Stranger Gold Nugget, the largest gold nugget ever discovered in Australia.
Obverse
The obverse of the Australian Nugget 1 oz Gold Coin comes with a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is depicted on the Australian Nugget gold coins in the third-generation British design. Created by Raphael Maklouf, this image was used on British coins from 1985 to 1997 and is the third-generation design from the Royal Mint of England. The image features the Queen wearing the Royal Diadem crown, otherwise known as the George IV State Diadem. This crown is reserved for use only during the state opening of parliament.
Reverse
On the reverse, Australian Nugget 1 oz Gold Coins feature a depiction of an Australian gold nugget. Like other coins from the mint, the Australian Nugget features a new design on the reverse each year. The Australian Nugget series used actual images of gold nuggets mined or otherwise discovered within Australias gold fields. After 1989, the series transitioned to become the Australian Kangaroo Gold Series.
History
Throughout the Australian Nugget Gold Series, the coins were available in the same weights the modern Australian Kangaroo Gold Series offers. This includes 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz coins.
