{{/presale}}The Proof American Eagle Platinum Coins are the only annual-issue bullion coins in the American Eagle Series that have new design images on one face each year. From 1997 to 2017, the reverse imagery of the coins was changed each year. From 1997 to 2008, the United States Mint issued the Proof American Eagle Platinum Coins in four weights in total. Those were also issued in four-coin sets. Provident Metals currently has Proof American Eagle Four-Coin Platinum Sets available to purchase online from random years.
Highlights:
When you buy the Proof American Eagle Four-Coin Platinum Sets in this product listing, you receive a total of four coins. The Proof American Eagle Platinum Set comes with a 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz platinum specimen included in the set. Each one of the coins is individually housed in a capsule and comes with its own spot in the felt lining of the presentation booklet.
Obverse
On the obverse side of all the Proof American Eagle Platinum Coins in this four-coin set is the Statue of Liberty. This design was created by John Mercanti in 1997 and features the face of Liberty. Her stoic gaze is fixed on the horizon as she holds her torch up in her right hand out of view of the design field and the spikes of her towering crown reach to the edge of the design element.
Reverse
The reverse face of the Proof American Eagle Platinum Coins in the Four-Coin Platinum Set comes with new images for each date mark. The 1997 coin had a depiction of the American bald eagle gliding over the nation as the sun rises and was designed by Thomas D. Rogers. Date marks from 1998 to 2002 have various images of the bald eagle flying over different regions of the country in a design series known as the Vistas of Liberty. The US Mint uses new designs on the reverse in this series every year.
History
Proof American Eagle Four-Coin Platinum Sets are only available with date marks from 1997 to 2008. In 2009, the US Mint suspended the fractional-ounce coins in both the Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof versions of the American Eagle Platinum Coin. The 1 oz proof continued on and the 1 oz BU coin did not return until 2014.
Ordering
Please note that we cannot guarantee the date marks on the set you receive. If you buy more than one, you may get matching date marks on the sets as well as matching reverse designs.
