Obverse
On the obverse of all American Eagle 1/4 oz Platinum Coins is an image of the Statue of Liberty. Designed in 1997 by John Mercanti, this image has featured on all date marks in the BU series of American Eagle Platinum Coins. It depicts Libertys face with her towering crowns spikes reaching beyond the field of view in the design element of the coin and her right hand stretching up into the air out of view as well.
Reverse
The reverse side of the American Eagle 1/4 oz Platinum Coin comes with a depiction of the American bald eagle. Known as the Eagle soaring over America, the image was created in 1997 by Thomas D. Rogers, an engraver and sculptor with the United States Mint. This design has likewise featured on the reverse of all date marks in the BU American Eagle Platinum Coin Series.
History
American Eagle Platinum Coins debuted in 1997 as the third version of the American Eagle coins after the gold and silver options. This series featured 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz platinum coins from 1997 to 2008, with fractional-ounces not returning after the 2008 release of the coins.
