{{/presale}}Introduced in 1997, the American Eagle Platinum Coin was the third version of the American Eagle Series to debut at the United States Mint. When the series was first available, both the Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof options had 1 oz coins with three fractional-ounce weights. The largest of those was the 1/2 oz coin. Right now, you can buy American Eagle 1/2 oz Platinum Coins in perfect condition online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
With your purchase of the American Eagle 1/2 oz Platinum Coin available in this listing, you receive each individual item sealed inside of an NGC protective plastic slab. Each one of the coins in this listing earned a near-perfect certification from the NGC. Coins in this condition exhibit full, original mint luster and have no more than two minor detracting flaws. Acceptable flaws at this level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines and must be located outside of the primary focal points of the coin.
Obverse
The obverse face of American Eagle 1/2 oz Platinum Coins bears a depiction of the Statue of Liberty. In this design from John Mercanti, you see only the fact of Liberty as she gazes off into the distance. Her spiked crown is visible, while a portion of her right arm holding the torch aloft is also visible, though the hand and torch are outside the field of view.
Reverse
On the reverse side of American Eagle Platinum Coins, you will find the image of an American bald eagle soaring over the continent. This design features on the reverse of all BU coins and was used twice in the proof series as well. The eagle flies with its wings flexed straight out to its sides as the sun rises in the distant background.
History
American Eagle Platinum Coins were issued from 1997 to 2008 in both the BU and Proof versions with 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz coins. The BU series was not issued at all from 2009 to 2013, resuming annual releases in 2016. The Proof series continued annually from 2009, but with only a 1 oz coin available.
