Highlights:
The Jurassic Park films of the late 20th and early 21st centuries made the velociraptor a household name. The fearsome protagonist from the first three films, the raptor was portrayed in the feature films as a vicious and swift killer. The raptor would silently stalk its prey in packs and use misdirection to lull its prey into a sense of comfort before launching a surprise attack from the opposite direction.
Design
The 8 oz Silver Antique Velociraptor Statue featured here is available in a pose where it attacks a smaller dinosaur. The raptor has overcome its victim and is dining on its carcass. The raptor is standing over its victim enjoying a hunk of the beast in its mouth. The raptor was able to overcome its prey using both its high speed, 24 MPH at top speed, and used its sickle-shaped claws on its hindfeet to slice-and-dice its prey once overcoming the other dinosaur. This statue is reminiscent of one of the most famous specimens found in the fossil record. That fossil captures a raptor locked in combat with a protoceratops.
History
Velociraptors lived in the late Cretaceous Period between 75 and 71 million years ago. While it is typically depicted in popular media as a singular species, there are actually two known species of velociraptor present in the fossil record. The raptor is similar in physical appearance to other dromaeosaurids, but is distinguishable courtesy of its long, low skull and upturned snout.
