The hand-stamped look of the bar adds to its rustic nature, and one could almost be forgiven for thinking that this silver bar hailed from the age of Vikings. The Viking Series from Monarch Precious Metals features fierce warriors racing into battle. The 5 oz Silver Monarch Flail and Shield Viking Bar is the second design in the series and features a bold and brave Viking wielding his shield and a flail. The first design that was released in the Viking Series featured a Viking in a different type of armor, wielding a different type of weapon.

The flail pictured on this bar was a brutal weapon, known for doing deadly and efficient damage to enemies in battle. This weapon was actually based upon an agricultural tool. Quite often it was the farmers and the farmhands sent into battle on short notice, sometimes simply just in defense of their land and their families. This meant that weapons were often improvised, as is the case with the flail.

Obverse

The obverse design of the 5 oz Silver Monarch Flail and Shield Viking Bar features the imposing image of the Viking warrior, gripping his shield in one hand so as to protect his body from the strikes of his enemy. In his other hand, swinging above his head, the Viking has his flail in readiness to strike out at his enemies in battle. There have been a number of variations n the flail over the years, but the majority of them featured a spike-covered ball and chain linked to a large stick.

Additional markings on the obverse face of the silver bar include engravings identifying the weight, purity and metal content of the bars. Also present is the crown logo of Monarch Precious Metals.

Reverse

The reverse face of the face has no engravings or markings on it.
