Design
All 5 oz Antique Finish Soldiers Collection Silver Statues in this listing feature a US paratrooper who has just landed on Normandy. Rendered with precise detail, these statues show the soldier balancing on rocky terrain with his parachute slung across his shoulder. He is dressed in a traditional uniform with a helmet and wields a weapon strapped across his chest. This statue serves as a great reminder of the American heroes who sacrificed their lives and helped secure the Allied Victory on D-Day.
History
On June 6th, 1944, Allied Forces landed on Normandy on what is now referred to as D-Day. The invasion of the Normandy beaches was part of Operation Overlord, which helped to push back German forces who had occupied France since 1940. In total, 150,000 allied troops landed on 5 different beaches. Included were 13,100 American paratroopers, who were among the first to land in the enemy-occupied territory. D-Day proved to be a turning point in the war, and less than a year later, Germany would officially surrender to the Allied Forces.
