{{/presale}}Italia is the official female personification of Italy. Known officially as Italia turrita, the second piece of her name points to the 2,000-year history of the figure that dates back to the Roman Empire when the Roman priests predicted that only the deity Cybele could save the city. Cybele was often depicted with a turreted crown, just as Italia wears in this new Allegories Series design. Right now, you can purchase 5 oz Silver 2020 Germania The Allegories Italia & Germania Rounds online from Provident Metals.

Obverse
Italia stands alongside Germania in the obverse design of the 5 oz Silver 2020 Germania The Allegories Italia & Germania Round. Italia is depicted with a feminine, pleated dress to highlight her beauty and wears the turreted crown while leaning a pedestal with a Horn of Plenty set atop it. Germania stands to the right with one hand resting on the shoulder of Italia as a sign of friendship and her left hand extended, welcoming Italia. Inscriptions on this side include Allegories and 5 oz 999.9 Fine Silver.
Reverse
Germania Mints coat of arms is depicted on the reverse side of the 5 oz Silver Germania The Allegories Italia & Germania Rounds. The coat of arms offers a crowned shield that is quartered. The first quadrant features the double-headed eagle, the second quadrant a checkered pattern, the third quadrant a ribbon with three flowers, and the fourth quadrant a wild boar. Inscriptions include the words Germania, 2020, and 25 Mark.
History
Italia turrita is based on the deity of fertility known as Cybele. She came into popular design use during the Second Punic War between 218 and 202 BC. During the early 1st century BC under the reign of Denarius, Italia turrita came into wider acceptance as a symbol of a unified, peaceful Italy under Roman rule after the Social War.
