{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Goldbacks are privately produced notes that serve as a voluntary local currency. Each note is made using a thin layer of 24-karat gold sealed within durable polyester, allowing the note to hold a precise fractional amount of physical gold. This innovative design makes Goldbacks one of the few modern currencies that contain spendable gold. The series first appeared in Utah and has since expanded to several additional states, bringing together the stability of gold with the concept of everyday exchange. The Idaho Goldback continues this growing series with its own themed designs and denominations. Currently, 25 Idaho Goldback Gold Notes are available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 25 Idaho Goldback Gold Note available here contains 24-karat gold integrated into the structure of the note. Individual notes arrive in protective sleeves, while orders of four notes are packaged together without sleeves and secured using a black strap.
Design
The design of the 25 Idaho Goldback Gold Note features a female scientist engaged in the development of the first nuclear power facility in the United States capable of generating electricity. On December 20, 1951, the Experimental Breeder Reactor I (EBR-I), located near Arco, Idaho, successfully produced usable electricity, becoming the first nuclear reactor in the world to achieve this milestone. The work conducted at EBR-I and at the nearby Idaho National Laboratory involved many researchers and engineers. Among them were women scientists whose work contributed to nuclear engineering, safety analysis, and radiochemistry during the early years of nuclear research.
History
Scientia is the classical allegory representing knowledge and learning. Traditionally depicted as a bright and attentive figure, she reflects both the dedication needed to gain understanding and the clarity that knowledge provides. The name originates from the Latin word scire, meaning to know. In artwork, Scientia is often shown with objects such as books, torches, or astrolabes, which represent study, discovery, and the careful observation of the natural world. Ancient philosophers used the term scientia to describe a disciplined and thoughtful form of knowledge based on reasoning, observation, and careful reflection.
