Highlights:
With your purchase of 25 Gold Utah Goldback Notes in this listing, you receive your individual gold notes inside of protective sleeves. These gold notes are privately-issued notes acceptable for bartering and purchasing by the holder in the state of Utah. The development of these gold notes is the result of the passage of the Utah Legal Tender Act of 2011 that sought to establish new, acceptable forms of gold as currency.
Design
The obverse face of the 25 Gold Utah Goldback Note depicts the Roman goddess Victoria as a US suffragette. The design depicts the female figure in front-facing relief with an American flag on a pole in her left hand and a wheat stalk in her right hand to symbolize victory. She wears a ribbon across her chest that reads Votes Counting Since 1870. The reverse face of the gold notes in this series does not have a distinctive design. Instead, what you see is the mirror image of the obverse design that results from the production process that creates the design element on the obverse.
History
25 Gold Utah Goldback Notes depicts Victoria as a suffragette as a nod to the states role in the larger suffrage movement in the United States. From the colonial era to the 20th century, women did not have the right to vote in the United States. General elections were limited to landholding men, leaving women on the outside when it came to voting.
In 1870, Utah made it legal for women to vote. This came at a time when the state was merely a territory and not a state in the Union. Utah was the second location to give women the right to vote in the United States behind only Wyoming.
