Obverse

The obverse of the 2026 Royal Australian Mint Year of the Horse Gold Coin displays a left-profile portrait of King Charles III. Around the image, the zodiac ring shows each animal in order, highlighting the Horse in its special position for 2026. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA 2026, and 100 DOLLARS.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the 2026 RAM Year of the Horse 1 oz Gold Coin, a horse is shown running at full stride. The art emphasizes motion and energy, reflecting the belief that Fire Horse vitality is wild and free, with the design lines arranged to show power, speed, and life. The inscriptions read YEAR OF THE HORSE and 1 OZ .9999 AU.

History

The Fire Horse year appears once every sixty years when the Horse zodiac sign matches with the fire element in Chinese astrology. The most recent Fire Horse year occurred in 1966, with the one before that in 1906. This rare mix of symbol and element has long fascinated people and inspired stories, particularly in Japan, where old beliefs suggested women born in Fire Horse years would be especially strong-minded and self-reliant.
