Design
On the 2026 Proof Solomon Islands FIFA World Cup Trophy Shaped Gold Coin, the design reflects the modern version of the trophy. After the Jules Rimet Trophy was retired in 1970, FIFA held a competition for a new design. Italian sculptor Silvio Gazzaniga created the winning entry, first awarded at the 1974 tournament. His concept features figures rising upward while supporting the globe, symbolizing triumph and global unity. The obverse of the coin shows King Charles III along with the official FIFA 26 logo.
History
The history of the FIFA World Cup Trophy begins with early efforts to organize an international soccer competition. Jules Rimet, FIFAs third president, helped establish the tournament, which debuted in Uruguay in 1930. The original trophy, initially named Victory and later known as the Coupe du Monde, was designed by Abel Lafleur. It was crafted in gold-plated sterling silver and featured a base made from lapis lazuli.
