Obverse
The obverse of the 2026 Proof Niue Queen Elizabeth 100th Anniversary Silver Coin features a portrait of Her Late Majesty. She became queen on February 6, 1952, after the passing of her father, and her coronation ceremony followed on June 2, 1953. Elizabeth died on September 8, 2022, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland at the age of 96. Her reign spanned more than 70 years, from 1952 to 2022, and remains the longest in British history. Across those decades, she saw Britain and the wider world change dramatically, including the end of the British Empire and the growth of the Commonwealth of Nations. The inscriptions here read QUEEN ELIZABETH, ERII, and THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF HER MAJESTY’S BIRTH.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2026 Proof 100th Anniversary of Her Majesty’s Birth 1 oz Silver Coins is an image of the Public Seal of Niue. The seals coat of arms presents native flora at the center, encircled by a ring of seashells. Set above the shells is a Sovereign crown, a symbol reflecting Niues relationship with the Commonwealth. Inscriptions here read NIUE ISLAND, ONE DOLLAR, 1 OZ, 2026, and AG 999.
History
Elizabeth II did not begin life expecting to become queen, but the abdication of her uncle, King Edward VIII, in 1936 changed the line of succession and placed her father on the throne. With her fathers accession, Elizabeth became heir presumptive. During World War II, she joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service and trained as a driver and mechanic. She later married Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark in 1947, and the couple welcomed four children: Charles, Anne, Andrew, and Edward.
