The obverse of the 2026 Proof Hologram Niue Carpenter Bee Silver Coin shows a portrait of King Charles III. The King is depicted in left-profile relief without a crown. This portrait is one of the first official effigies created following his accession and was designed by engraver Jody Clark. Surrounding inscriptions provide identifying details for the coin. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, NIUE, TWO DOLLARS, and 2026.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2026 Proof Hologram Carpenter Bee 1 oz Silver Coin is a detailed representation of a carpenter bee. The insect is highlighted with a hologram finish across its body and wings. Carpenter bees typically measure between half an inch and one inch long and are known for their smooth, glossy black abdomens, which set them apart from bumblebees that appear similar at first glance. The inscriptions read CARPENTER BEE and 1 OZ 999 PURE SILVER.
History
Carpenter bees are large bees that belong to the genus Xylocopa and are known for nesting inside wood. They create tunnels in untreated softwoods such as pine, cedar, and redwood, which is how they earned their common name. Unlike honeybees or bumblebees that live in social groups, carpenter bees are solitary insects and do not form hives or colonies.
