Obverse

On the obverse of 2026 Proof Cook Islands Seven Deadly Sins Gluttony Silver Coins, you will find the portrait of King Charles III. This depiction is among the first-generation effigies used during his reign and presents the monarch without a crown. The artwork for this portrait was created by Dan Thorne. Inscriptions include 5 DOLLARS, CHARLES III, 2026, and COOK ISLANDS.

Reverse

The reverse of 2026 Proof Seven Deadly Sins Gluttony 1 oz Silver Coins features a Giant Panda eating bamboo. Within Christian teaching, gluttony is often viewed as placing physical cravings above what is truly needed, allowing desire to overrule restraint. The panda is a thoughtful symbol for the theme because the species spends much of its day feeding, sometimes eating for hours and consuming significant amounts of bamboo over time.

History

The history of the Seven Deadly Sins reaches back to early monastic teachings, including the work of Evagrius Ponticus, a fourth-century monk who listed eight negative thoughts that could weaken a persons spiritual life. Later, in the sixth century, Pope Gregory I revised that earlier concept into the seven sins most widely known today. These vices have been described as capital because they can spark other immoral actions and patterns of behavior. Christian writers also connected each sin with a corresponding virtue, offering a practical counterbalance meant to encourage better habits and discipline.
