{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Perth Mint recognizes Australias gold rush era with a series of collectible coins that reflect the importance of this time in the nations growth. These coins highlight the discovery of gold and the people who contributed to the expansion of the economy in the mid-19th century. Today, the 2026 Proof Australian 175th Anniversary of Australia’s First Gold Rush 1 oz Silver Coin with gold accents is available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2026 Proof Australian 175th Anniversary of Australia’s First Gold Rush 1 oz Silver Coin is housed in a Perth Mint presentation case with a black base and a clear lid. The coin is packaged inside a themed outer box inspired by the gold rush period and includes a Certificate of Authenticity. This proof release features 24-karat gold accents that highlight the rim and the central shovel-and-pick-ax design on the reverse.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2026 Proof Australian 175th Anniversary of Australia’s First Gold Rush Silver Coin shows King Charles III in left-profile relief. He is depicted without a crown in this design. The portrait was created by Dan Thorne and represents the first official effigy of the King for Australian coinage. Inscriptions include CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, 1 OZ 9999 AG, and 1 DOLLAR.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2026 Proof 175th Anniversary of Australia’s First Gold Rush 1 oz Silver Coin, the design includes elements tied to the mining era. Images such as wheelbarrows, tents, and gold pans appear throughout the background. At the center is a 175th-anniversary emblem with a crossed shovel and pick ax, along with the outline of Australia and the number 175. Inscriptions read AUSTRALIA’S FIRST GOLD RUSH, 175, and 2026.
History
In February 1851, Edward Hargraves, a prospector who had returned from California, announced that he had located gold near Bathurst in New South Wales. He named the site Ophir and used panning methods learned overseas to recover gold from local waterways. His report to colonial authorities helped launch Australias first gold rush.
