{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Introduced in 1979, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf has become a well-known choice in the world of bullion. It is the second-oldest gold bullion coin still produced today, coming right after the South African Krugerrand. The series started with just one size but has expanded over time to include six annual weights. Among them, the 1 oz coin remains a steady favorite, while fractional options like the 1/2 oz piece are also widely purchased. The 2026 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin is now available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
These 2026 Canadian Maple Leaf 1/2 oz Gold Coins are packaged individually in plastic flips or in sealed plastic sheets of 10 for larger quantities. Although the Maple Leaf program launched in 1979, the 1/2 oz size wasnt introduced until 1986, making it one of the early fractional coins in the series.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2026 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin presents the first Canadian coin design of King Charles III. Created by Canadian artist Steven Rosati, this left-facing portrait shows the king without a crown. It is only the third time a Canadian artist has designed a royal portrait for the nations coins. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, 20 DOLLARS, and 2026.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2026 Maple Leaf 1/2 oz Gold Coin carries Walter Otts classic sugar maple leaf artwork. First seen in 1979, this image has become the defining design of the Maple Leaf Series and is used across multiple metal types, including gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. The inscriptions read CANADA, 9999, FINE GOLD, 1/2 OZ, and OR PUR.
History
Sugar maple trees release winged seeds known as samaras that can travel a few hundred feet from the tree. Despite this, their spread tends to be gradual because they depend on certain climate and moisture conditions, making them slower to adapt compared to other maples.
