Obverse
The obverse of the 2026 British Tudor Beasts Royal Dragon Gold Coin includes the official portrait of King Charles III designed by Martin Jennings. Shown in left-profile relief, the King is presented with a calm and realistic appearance that follows the traditional style of British coin portraits. Jennings design work delivers a balanced and detailed depiction of the monarch. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, DG REX FD, and 25 POUNDS.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2026 Tudor Beasts Royal Dragon 1/4 oz Gold Coin is the image of the Royal Dragon beside a quartered shield featuring Englands Three Lions and the French fleur de lis. These historic emblems together represent centuries of royal history and the long relationship between the English and French crowns. The design combines medieval heraldic symbols with modern minting detail. The inscriptions read ROYAL DRAGON, 1/4 OZ FINE GOLD, 999.9, and 2026.
History
The Royal Dragon has held an important place in British heraldry for centuries. Known as one of the oldest symbols connected to the monarchy, the dragon represents a link between English and Welsh royal traditions. Its long history within heraldic imagery ties the design to Britains deeper mythology, cultural identity, and royal heritage.
