{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Britannia bullion series made its debut from The Royal Mint in 1987, joining the Gold Sovereign as one of its staple annual coin releases. The first Britannia coin to appear was the Gold Britannia, offered in a range of weights from the very beginning. Today, Provident Metals offers the 2026 British Britannia 1/4 oz Gold Coin for purchase.
Highlights:
Each 2026 British Britannia 1/4 oz Gold Coin is presented in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Single coins are placed in protective flips, while quantities of 25 are housed in acrylic tubes. Security features on the reverse include wave-texture lines, micro-engraving, tincture lines, and a latent image for added authenticity.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2026 British Britannia Gold Coin shows the official portrait of King Charles III, introduced to British coinage in 2022. Designed by Martin Jennings, it depicts the King in left-profile without a crown. Inscriptions include CHARLES III, DG REX FD, and 25 POUNDS.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2026 Britannia 1/4 oz Gold Coins, Britannia is seen standing along the coast holding a trident in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. A Union Jack shield rests beside her, and she wears a Corinthian helmet. This design by Philip Nathan was first used in 1987 and remains an iconic representation of Britannia today. Inscriptions read BRITANNIA, 2026, 1/4 OZ, and 999.9 FINE GOLD.
History
In the 19th century, Britannias look evolved with more artistic detail and realism. She was depicted with well-defined features, flowing hair, and a Corinthian helmet, dressed in fine classical robes. The waters beneath her became more textured, and her trident and shield were engraved with sharper detail, reflecting both the advancements in minting technology and Britains naval power at the time.
