Obverse
On the obverse of the 2026 American Eagle Gold Coin is the famous Lady Liberty design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Liberty steps forward confidently, carrying a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. A full ring of stars frames the scene, and sunrays stretch behind her, giving the design its bright, classic finish. The inscriptions here include LIBERTY and 2026.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2026 Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin features the current bald eagle portrait. Introduced in 2020 and designed by Jennie Norris, this side presents the eagles head in left-profile relief with crisp detail across the feathers and strong facial features. Inscriptions here include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 50 DOLLARS, and 1 OZ. FINE GOLD.
History
The 1 oz Gold Eagle saw its first major reverse update in decades beginning in 2021, alongside the redesign of the Silver Eagle. Artist Jennie Norris crafted the new reverse image, which shows a detailed close-up of a single eagle in flight. The updated style brings a sharper, more modern look while staying true to the coins long-running theme.
