{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}In 2026, the United States Mint celebrates two important anniversary dates tied to its leading bullion coin programs. The American Eagle series marks 40 years, and the American Gold Buffalo reaches 20 years since its debut. First released in 2006, the Gold Buffalo stands out as the only 24-karat gold coin the Mint issues every year. Right now, 2026 American Buffalo 1 oz Gold Coins in certified condition are available to purchase online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
These 2026 American Buffalo 1 oz Gold Coins are available here as certified perfect examples. MS70 coins offer full, original mint luster and display no visible imperfections. First Strike coins are those that PCGS receives for grading within 30 days of the mints release date.
Obverse
The obverse of 2026 American Buffalo Gold Coins displays a right-profile portrait of an indigenous figure. Small design elements help bring it to life, such as the braided hair and the feather set into the braid. This artwork originally appeared in 1913 on the Buffalo Nickel and was created by sculptor James Earle Fraser. It remains one of the best-known portraits used on American coins and is frequently noted for presenting a more thoughtful representation than earlier designs. Inscriptions include LIBERTY and 2026.
Reverse
The reverse of 2026 Buffalo 1 oz Gold Coins shows an American bison in left-profile relief. Fraser also created this side for the Buffalo Nickel in 1913, presenting the animal standing on a patch of ground with a strong, sturdy stance. The design is closely associated with Black Diamond, a bison kept at the Central Park Zoo in New York City during the early twentieth century that is widely cited as the model for this iconic image. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, $50, and 1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD.
History
Since 2006, the American Gold Buffalo has been struck consistently and has become a go-to option for buyers who want pure 24-karat gold from the US Mint. Many investors choose it as an alternative to the Gold Eagle when purity is the main priority. The Gold Eagle features an alloy that includes silver and copper to improve durability, while the Buffalo is struck in .9999 fine gold, making it especially appealing to those who prefer the highest gold purity standard.
