Mexican Libertad bullion coins are crafted by the Mexican Mint, which holds the distinction of being the oldest mint in the Western Hemisphere still operating today. The Libertad Series was first introduced in the 1980s with both gold and silver coins, borrowing design inspiration from the 1921 Gold Centenario. In 2025, the mint scaled back production of Silver Libertads and did not release any Gold Libertads. This has resulted in some of the lowest mintages in the series for silver coins, which may play a role in future availability. Currently, certified 2025 Proof Mexican Libertad 5 oz Silver Coins are available from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Coins arrive in individual plastic slabs!
  • 29th release of 5 oz Proof Silver Libertad Coins!
  • Limited mintage of only 400 coins!
  • Contains 5 troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • Issued a grade of PR70 by the Professional Coin Grading Service.
  • DCAM designation.
  • Obverse features the coat of arms of Mexico.
  • Reverse includes the image of Winged Victory.

Each 2025 Proof Mexican Libertad 5 oz Silver Coin offered here has been certified PR70. This grade indicates a coin with full detail and no visible flaws. The DCAM label, or deep-cameo, refers to the strong visual contrast between the frosted devices and the highly reflective fields.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2025 Proof Mexican Libertad Silver Coin displays the official coat of arms of Mexico. This image shows an eagle perched on a cactus while gripping a serpent. Surrounding the main design are 10 historical versions of the coat of arms, arranged in a circular pattern on coins of 1 oz and larger. The inscriptions include ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2025 Proof Libertad 5 oz Silver Coin features Winged Victory in a three-quarter perspective. This design, first updated in 1996, shows her standing atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column. The inscriptions read 5 ONZAS, PLATA PURA, 2025 LEY .999, and the Mo mint mark.

History

Winged Victory is the central image of the Libertad Series. Based on the Greek figure Nike, she represents triumph and has been adapted into Mexicos Angel of Independence. She is shown holding a laurel wreath and broken chains, symbolizing freedom. The monument itself stands prominently in Mexico City along Paseo de la Reforma and is an important national symbol.
