{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Mexican Mint introduced the Silver Libertad series in 1982, beginning with the 1 oz silver BU coin. A year later, a 1 oz proof version followed, and starting in 1986, the mint began issuing proof coins annually. Over time, the collection expanded to include both smaller and larger sizes. Today, you can find the 2025 Proof Mexican Libertad 2 oz Silver Coin available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2025 Proof Mexican Libertad 2 oz Silver Coin is housed in a plastic capsule and features the classic look of proof-struck coinsfrosted designs set against shiny, mirrored backgrounds. In 2025, the Mexican Mint made substantial cuts to the mintage of Mexican Silver Libertads and opted not to issue any 2025 Mexican Gold Libertads. The mintage numbers for all BU Silver Libertads are at record lows for the series, a decision likely to result in increased rarity for this years coins.
Obverse
The obverse artwork on the 2025 Proof Mexican Libertad Silver Coin shows the current version of the Mexican coat of arms. In the center, a golden eagle battles a snake while perched on a prickly pear cactus. On the 2 oz coin, this image is surrounded by ten earlier versions of the same national symbol. The inscriptions include ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.
Reverse
The reverse design of 2025 Proof Libertad 2 oz Silver Coins presents the well-known Winged Victory figure. She stands atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column, holding a laurel wreath and broken chain. In the background, the snow-topped volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl are visible. The inscriptions read 2 ONZAS, PLATA PURA, 2025 LEY .999, and the Mo mint mark.
History
The obverse side of Mexican Libertad Coins displays the nations official coat of arms. This design traces back to a symbol in the 1534 Codex Mendoza, which documented Aztec culture. However, since the Codex was created during colonial times, the image blends native and Spanish elements, shaping a symbol that has helped define Mexicos national identity.
