{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Silver Libertad series has been a cornerstone of Mexicos bullion offerings since 1982 when the 1 oz BU coin was first introduced. In 1983, the Mexican Mint followed up with a 1 oz proof version, and by 1986, annual production of these proof coins was underway. Over time, the lineup expanded to include both smaller fractional coins and larger weights. Now, collectors can purchase the 2025 Proof Mexican Libertad 1/4 oz Silver Coin from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2025 Proof Mexican Libertad 1/4 oz Silver Coin is packaged in a clear acrylic capsule for protection. The 1/4 oz version made its debut in 1992 and has been issued annually since, with the exception of 2012.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 Proof Mexican Libertad Silver Coin presents Mexicos modern coat of arms. The artwork shows a golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus, grasping a serpent. While the 1 oz and larger coins include past versions of the emblem in a surrounding ring, these fractional sizes focus only on the current national design. Inscriptions include ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 2025 Proof Libertad 1/4 oz Silver Coins, the coin displays the Winged Victory figure from Mexico Citys Independence Victory Column. She is shown in front of the distant peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl, two volcanoes that hold cultural importance in Mexico. Inscriptions read 1/4 ONZA, PLATA PURA, 2025 LEY .999, and the Mo mint mark.
History
Mexicos coat of arms changed during the countrys revolutionary years. After independence was declared in 1821, designs like those from the Mexican Empire under Agustn de Iturbide tried to reflect both ancient traditions and the emergence of a new nation. The eagle in these designs sometimes wore a crown, a symbol of the brief empire. As republican ideas took hold, the artwork shifted to highlight the eagles deeper roots in pre-Hispanic symbolism.
