History
In the days that followed Lexington and Concord, colonial unity grew rapidly. Thousands of militia members from neighboring colonies gathered around Boston, boxing in the British troops and starting a siege that would last nearly a year. Just weeks after the battle, the Second Continental Congress assembled and took decisive actioncreating the Continental Army and naming George Washington as its leader. This laid the foundation for a more structured and united resistance.
