Obverse
On the obverse of the 2025 Proof Congo Velociraptor Gold Coin, you will find the official Congolese coat of arms. The design includes a leopards head at the center, representing national pride and strength. The shield is paired with two crossed items an elephant tusk and a spear symbols connected to the nations resources and its readiness to protect its independence.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2025 Proof Velociraptor 1/2 Gram Gold Coin features a detailed image of a Velociraptor. Despite being portrayed as much larger in popular culture, real velociraptors were closer in size to a turkey, standing about 18 inches tall at the hip and measuring around six feet from head to tail. They were built with lightweight bodies and hollow bones that helped them move quickly. Their most famous feature was the curved claw on the second toe, which could grow to about 2.6 inches and was likely used to restrain prey.
History
Velociraptors were small but highly capable predators that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 75 to 71 million years ago. Fossils suggest they lived in regions that are now Central and East Asia. Scientists believe these dinosaurs were quick and alert hunters, possibly relying on speed and coordination to capture prey. Many paleontologists think velociraptors were warm-blooded, which would have helped support their energetic movement. Some researchers have also suggested they may have hunted in groups, though the evidence is not fully settled. Their sickle-shaped claws were likely used to hold prey down rather than slice through it.
