{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Rottnest Island is located just off the coast of Western Australia and is home to the largest known population of quokkas in the world. These small marsupials, estimated at 10,000 to 12,000 in number, thrive in the protected, vehicle-free environment of the island. The Perth Mint has chosen this location, along with its well-known Wadjemup Lighthouse, as the backdrop for the 2025 Quokka coin design. Provident Metals now offers the 2025 Proof Colorized Australian Quokka 1 oz Silver Coin.
Highlights:
Each 2025 Proof Colorized Australian Quokka 1 oz Silver Coin comes in a display box from the Perth Mint, complete with a clear lid. The coin is presented in a themed outer shipper and arrives with a Certificate of Authenticity. This version of the coin includes colorized visuals that bring the artwork to life.
Obverse
The obverse side of the 2025 Proof Colorized Australian Quokka Silver Coin shows a left-profile image of King Charles III. This design was introduced in 2024 by artist Dan Thorne and represents the King without a crown. It is the first Australian coinage portrait of His Majesty. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, 1 OZ 9999 AG, and 1 DOLLAR.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2025 Proof Colorized Quokka 1 oz Silver Coins, the coin presents a scene featuring a quokka family on Rottnest Island with the Wadjemup Lighthouse in the background. Quokka families tend to be loosely structured, with mothers and young forming groups and males staying mostly solitary, aside from the breeding season. The lighthouse has stood since 1849, aiding maritime navigation along the coast. The inscriptions read QUOKKA, 2025, Muhl’s NM initials, and the P mint mark of the Perth Mint.
History
Rottnest Island has become a favorite destination for tourists hoping to spot and photograph quokkas in their natural setting. Because there are no cars and the area is carefully maintained, quokkas can explore freely and often interact with people. These moments have led to the popularity of the “quokka selfie,” shared widely on social media.
