{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Koalas are deeply woven into the cultural heritage of many Indigenous communities across Australia. These animals appear in traditional Dreamtime stories as powerful ancestral figures who helped shape the land and shared vital lessons about survival and unity with nature. Since 2007, The Perth Mint has honored the koala in its coin programs, offering new designs each year. You can now find the 2025 Proof Australian Koala 1 oz Gold Coin available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
All 2025 Proof Australian Koala 1 oz Gold Coins arrive in individual presentation boxes. These sturdy black boxes come from The Perth Mint and are housed in outer sleeves featuring koala-themed designs. The packaging also includes a Certificate of Authenticity. Each coin has a high-relief design that adds a more detailed, layered appearance to the imagery.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 Proof Australian Koala Gold Coin displays a left-facing portrait of King Charles III. This uncrowned image shows the king in profile and was created by artist Dan Thorne in 2024. It is the first official likeness of His Majesty to be used on Perth Mint coins. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, and 100 DOLLARS.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 2025 Proof Koala 1 oz Gold Coin, a koala is seen lying on a tree branch. Indigenous ecological knowledge includes deep insights into koala habits, movements, and preferred environments. Today, conservation groups recognize this information as critical in helping preserve koala populations and their natural eucalyptus forest habitats. The inscriptions read KOALA, 2025, 1 OZ 9999 GOLD, and the P mint mark.
History
Many Aboriginal stories from southeastern parts of Australia include koalas as important figures. Some stories describe them as humans who changed forms through sacred events, while others tell of koalas helping people find water in times of drought by climbing trees to look for rivers. Because they survive on eucalyptus leaves and rarely need to drink water, koalas are seen as strong and adaptable creatures in a tough environment.
