This uncrowned depiction is part of the first official series of portraits for His Majesty, created by Glyn Davies. The inscriptions here include CHARLES III, PITCAIRN ISLANDS, 25 CENTS, and 2025.

Reverse

On the reverse of 2025 Ocean Wonders Whale 1/2 Gram Gold Coins, the coin shows a blue whale swimming through the Pacific Ocean. These whales inhabit oceans around the globe, living in deep waters and traveling seasonally between feeding and breeding areas.

History

The Pitcairn Islands are part of a migration path in the South Pacific used by blue whales traveling between the Southern Ocean and warmer waters of the Pacific. While not a primary breeding or feeding area, the region plays an important role as a transit zone. Blue whales follow the areas shifting currents and food sources. The creation of marine protected areas around the Pitcairn Islands has helped preserve the habitat for blue whales and other marine life in this remote part of the Pacific.
