The series includes both silver and gold coins, all of which feature designs rooted in the countrys history. One of the key design inspirations is the 1921 Gold Centenario. The 2025 Mexican Libertad 1/2 oz Silver Coin is offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and ships in a protective flip. The Mexican Mint restricted mintage numbers for Mexican Silver Libertads in 2025 and has opted not to issue 2025 Mexican Gold Libertads. Notably, BU Silver Libertads now hold the lowest mintage totals in the history of the series, a move that may impact the availability of these coins in the years to come.
Obverse
The obverse of each 2025 Mexican Libertad Silver Coin carries Mexicos national coat of arms. A golden eagle is shown standing on a cactus, clutching a snake in its beak and talons. This imagery is inspired by traditional Aztec legend and is a national symbol of pride. The inscriptions read ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.
Reverse
On the reverse, the 2025 Libertad 1/2 oz Silver Coin presents Winged Victory. Since 1996, this version of the design has shown Victory in a three-quarter angle as she stands atop the Independence Victory Column in Mexico City, holding a laurel wreath in one hand and broken chains in the other. Inscriptions here read 1/2 ONZA, PLATA PURA, 2025 LEY .999, and the Mo mint mark.
History
Unlike the classic European portrayals of victory figures, Mexicos Winged Victory design highlights peace, justice, and national unity. Rather than military triumph, this version reflects Mexicos pursuit of a stable, modern identity rooted in its own cultural heritage and historical journey.
